Thomson Rogers LLP donates $30,000 to OPPI to initiate NEW Registered Professional Planner Mentorship Award

Toronto, ON—As part of its 90th anniversary celebrations, Thomson Rogers LLP will donate $30,000 to create an annual award that recognizes mentors whose generosity and guidance strengthen the land use planning profession. Developed in partnership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), the Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award will recognize a dedicated Registered Professional Planner (RPP) who has made a lasting impact by mentoring someone working towards their RPP designation.

This is a multi-year sponsorship that aligns with Thomson Rogers’ core values. The firm has always given great weight to mentorship and its critical role in supporting future generations. By recognizing those who go above and beyond to support RPP candidates, this award reinforces the value of community, leadership, and integrity within the planning profession.

“We are proud to work with OPPI to shine a spotlight on the volunteer mentors,” said Stephen D’Agostino, Managing Partner at Thomson Rogers LLP and a municipal lawyer himself. “Mentorship plays a vital role in supporting professional planners in municipalities, fostering knowledge transfer, ethical decision-making, and long-term leadership development.”

“Mentorship is a defining feature of the RPP designation,” said Susan Wiggins, Executive Director of OPPI. “So, we’re thrilled to partner with Thomson Rogers to recognize the significant contributions of those who help the next generation of planners succeed.”

The Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award will be administered by OPPI and launch as part of the 2026 PlanON Awards in April. At that time, RPP candidates and newly designated members can nominate mentors who have demonstrated dedication in their support and guidance.

This $30,000 gift is part of Thomson Rogers’ 90th anniversary initiative, which allocates $90,000 to three community programs aligned with the firm’s practice areas and values.
