Applications are now open for the Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award in partnership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI)

April 21, 2026

The Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award recognizes exceptional professional planners in Ontario who demonstrate a strong commitment to mentorship, leadership and community building within the planning field.

Thomson Rogers LLP sponsorship of OPPI

In 2025, Thomson Rogers LLP announced its 90th anniversary initiative, which allocates $90,000 to three community programs aligned with the firm’s practice areas and values.

As part of this initiative, the firm donated $30,000 to the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) in sponsorship of the Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award.

OPPI represents planning professionals in Ontario. Recognizing the strength of the resources and sense of community it fosters, Thomson Rogers LLP was proud to support the organization’s commitment to excellence.

The Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award for professional planners

The Thomson Rogers LLP Mentorship Award is granted to an OPPI member who has demonstrated exceptional mentorship within Ontario’s professional planning community. This award follows a pay‑it‑forward structure, meaning nominations must be submitted by past mentees.

The prize fund awarded to the mentor will, in turn, be given back to the mentee or mentees of their choice, helping support the next phase of their professional development. The award will be presented at the annual OPPI conference during the PlanON awards ceremony.

Grading criteria for the mentorship award

Eligible nominees must be members of the OPPI and must be nominated by a current or former mentee.

Applications will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Quality of Mentorship: Assesses the impact of the mentorship practice based on factors such as meaningful guidance, accountability and personal growth.
  • Impact on Mentee Development: Considers clear and demonstrable evidence that the mentor has provided value to their mentee’s career advancement, skill development and engagement within the professional planning community and related professional networks.
  • Commitment to Mentorship Culture: Examines the mentor’s ongoing involvement in mentorship, including the number of mentees supported and contributions to broader community initiatives.
  • Professional Integrity and Role Modeling: Evaluates the extent to which the mentor demonstrates exemplary professional values and serves as a positive role model, creating lasting impact on the lives of their mentee(s).

Applications are now open until May 22, 2026. Eligible members are encouraged to nominate an outstanding mentor.
