Thomson Rogers fondly remembers Alan Farrer

December 31, 2025

All of us at Thomson Rogers LLP are deeply saddened and shocked to share the news of the passing of our former and beloved Managing Partner, Alan Farrer on December 29.

Alan’s leadership shaped our firm in profound and lasting ways. He was with our firm his entire career, starting as an articling student in 1979 and retiring as the Managing Partner at the end of 2018. During those years, Alan built a distinguished career in complex litigation and class actions, arguing cases in all levels of Court in Canada, including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He will be remembered as a brilliant lawyer, an outstanding litigator and a vital contributor to the success of many of our important cases including the national Residential School Class Action.

During his more than 20 years as Managing Partner, he led with integrity, wisdom, and genuine care for the people who make this firm what it is. His influence extended well beyond his role, and many of us benefited personally from his guidance, mentorship, and steady presence. Seeing Alan at our alumni event in October and firm holiday party in December makes this loss feel especially difficult and unexpected. He was family.

On behalf of Thomson Rogers, we extend our deepest condolences to Alan’s wife Jennifer (also a former lawyer at Thomson Rogers), their children, grandchildren, and loved ones.

Alan, we will miss you and honour your legacy, always.
