As part of its Ontario Line Project, Metrolinx plans to undertake tunnelling activities for the Ontario Line. Recently, a number of property owners in the area have been notified by Metrolinx representatives that they may be losing their homes because of structural impacts from the construction activities. Specifically, the properties located on the east side of Pape Avenue between Langley and Riverdale Avenues are expected to be impacted.

Property owners who don’t want to sell their land may end up having their land taken from them by Metrolinx. This type of taking is known as an “expropriation.” Property owners facing the threat of expropriation can be under a lot of stress. There is often a lot of uncertainty about what is happening.

If you own a property that has been expropriated or you are facing the threat of expropriation, it is important to understand your legal rights. There are protections that may be available to you under the Ontario Expropriations Act.

Consulting with an expropriation lawyer is crucial because they can help you navigate the complex legal landscape, protect your rights, and secure fair compensation for your property. An experienced lawyer can also negotiate on your behalf and provide valuable advice on how to handle negotiations with Metrolinx or other authorities. Don’t leave your future to chance; make sure you have the legal support you need during this challenging time.

If you or someone you know is affected by the Ontario Project Line by Metrolinx, find out about your legal rights regarding expropriation and see answers to Expropriation FAQs. Contact Thomson Rogers expropriation lawyers to learn your rights.
