Junior Help Desk Technician

Thomson Rogers LLP is seeking a Junior Help Desk Technician to join its IT group.

Description of the Role:

The Junior Help Desk Technician role is to deliver support to end users in the organization concerning the use of various types of software programs efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. This includes troubleshooting applications and hardware issues for all staff members.

Responsibilities:

  • Field incoming calls from end users and resolve application and hardware issues
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, under the direction of the Network Administrator and/or Director of IT
  • Record, track, and document the problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution
  • Communicate application problems and issues to team leaders
  • Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been adequately resolved
  • Identify and learn appropriate software applications used and supported by the organization
  • Administer new hire technology needs (e.g., desktop imaging, account creation)
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including the installation of service packs, patches, hot fixes, anti-virus software, and other security-related updates as directed by team leaders
  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting
  • Assist in maintaining cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection, phishing awareness, and access control policies
  • Support additional IT projects and administrative tasks as required

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • College Diploma or related work experience
  • One to two years’ experience providing Help Desk support or client support in a professional or similar environment
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office to aid end users in resolving issues
  • Must have experience working in a Microsoft 365 environment
  • Must have experience working with Windows 10, 11 in an AD domain environment
  • Lotus Notes/Domino experience a definite asset
  • Knowledge of Apple and Android mobile devices and overall mobile device management; experience with Intune is required
  • Experience with Zoom, Zoom rooms, and Poly devices is a plus
  • An interest in cybersecurity or relevant education/certifications (e.g., Security+, Microsoft SC-900, or similar) is highly desirable
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organization, communication (both verbal and written), and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail, flexible, able to multitask, and adapt while staying calm in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Desire to remain up-to-date with current and future technologies emerging in the industry
  • Technical hardware skills a definite asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with adaptability would be an asset
  • A service-oriented professional who takes pride in providing responsive and effective support
  • Previous exposure to working in the legal environment would be an asset
  • Collaborative, approachable, and able to build positive working relationships across the firm

Expected Compensation Range:

$55,000 – $65,000 CAD
