Thomson Rogers continues investigations into Long-Term Care Homes

June 2, 2020

Thomson Rogers has been retained to assist clients who have lost loved ones as a result of a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home.

On June 1, 2020, Thomson Rogers filed a class action lawsuit against Altamont Care Community in Scarborough, Ontario. The class action lawsuit alleges that Altamont failed to implement screening measures of its staff and basic social distancing practices, including the separation of infected and non-infected residents. It is alleged that there was severe under-staffing and a failure to provide basic personal protective equipment to Altamont’s staff. As a result, there was a serious COVID-19 outbreak that has claimed the lives of at least 52 residents. The class action seeks compensation for the families of the victims and survivors of Altamont.

Our team continues to investigate long-term care homes in Ontario that have been tragically impacted by a COVID-19 outbreak.

If you have a family member in a long-term care home and you are seeking information on their legal rights, we encourage you to contact Stephen Birman (416-868-3174 [email protected]) or Lucy Jackson (416-868-3154 [email protected]).
