Stephen Birman Featured In The Toronto Star Article Covering A Recent Jury Award In An LTD Claim

Thomson Rogers LLP Partner Stephen Birman is quoted in the Toronto Star article titled “Family sues city over lack of suicide barriers on Leaside Bridge after dad killed by falling man.

In it, he comments:

“A family’s life is never the same after something like this happens.”

He goes on to say:

“But above and beyond that, this is an issue about public safety and how a municipality should respond to known dangers or hazards in the community.”

The family of Harold Lusthouse is now suing the City of Toronto for failing to install barriers on the Leaside Bridge – safety measures they believe could have prevented the tragedy. Harold was on his way to a Father’s Day brunch when the vehicle he was in was struck by a person jumping from the bridge, leading to Lusthouse’s untimely death.
