Drowning can happen in seconds. This National Drowning Prevention Week, Partner Stacey Stevens shares key tips to help safeguard you and your loved ones near the water.
- Know how to swim. If you don’t know how to swim, use a flotation device.
- If you have kids, don’t let them swim unattended.
- If you’re swimming in a lake, make sure to check the weather. You’ve checked the currents, and if there’s going to be any diving, make sure that you’ve checked the depth.
- If you’re going to go swimming, whether it’s in a pool or the lake, don’t be drinking and don’t be taking any drugs.
- If you have a pool, make sure that there’s a fence around your pool and the gate is locked at all times
Stacey represented many families who have lost a loved one in drowning cases. Never underestimate what can happen when someone’s in the water. The water is powerful, and anything can happen in a heartbeat.
